Can You Play Pirated PS2 Games In Your PS3?

[ad#link]Play Pirated PS2 Games In Your PS3 ConsoleOne of the more searched items in the internet is/are articles or materials on how to play pirated ps2 games in the PS3 console. People are feeling the crunch of the rather expensive PS3 games and are actively looking for ways to actually play pirated ps2 games in their PS3s.

So far, there has been no actual, documented way in which to play pirated playstation games in the PS3. Sure there are videos out there that tell you how to do it, some say you just have to install chipsets and do some tinkering but for the casual gamer this is not the way to go. It’s way too complicated and bothersome to even attempt it.  Also, are you really willing to risk destroying your rather pricey console just to play illegal games?  Something to think about when you plan on messing around with your PS3.

The closest we can get to playing pirated or copied ps2 or ps1 games in the PS3 is by purchasing a PS3 console that is backwards compatible. You can read all about PS3 backward compatibility and how to check if the PS3 console you purchased is backward compatible in this article–> PS3 backward compatibility.

Once you’ve determined that your PS3 console is backward compatible. Then it should be easy for you to play PS3 or PS1 games. And if you can do that, then you can try those pirated PS2 games and see if they work on your backward compatible PS3 as well. That’s the easiest way to go.

But how about pirated PS3 games? So far, no can do. Most PS3 games are on blu-ray disc. This one alone is a big discouragement for potential pirates. BDs are expensive. The reason being is that they hold so much data thus allowing for really heavy graphics to be compressed in one DVD. Pirates cannot just copy these BD PS3 games in ordinary DVDs as the data won’t fit. If they purchase BDs to copy the games, they could probably do so, but it would not be in their best interest. The objective of piracy is mass distribution at a fraction price. If they decide to mass produce pirated PS3 games, then the cost would be prohibitive which is in contradiction with their objectives.

So folks, if you haven’t purchased a PS3 console yet, but you are intent on buying one, then backward compatibility should be one of your main consideration. This should give you more options in terms of games variety as you can play non-PS3 games.

Dudes, when you buy just ensure that your PS3 Firmware is 1.8 or later. Backward compatibility started with Firmware 1.8. As of this post, it's now 2.75

When the price of the BD disks goes down(and so does the writers) then piracy of PS3 games starts again.
It's just a matter of time.

It's easier (and perhaps even cheaper) to just buy a second hand PS2 and use the to play old PS2 games on. I picked up a cheap slimline PS2 at the same time as I bought my PS3 for just an extra AU$70. The slimline PS2 models don't take up much room and it's a lot easier than modding your PS3 and cheaper than buying a backwards compatible PS3.

I think that they've hit on a bit of a winner using the Blu-ray discs. I mean, who would buy a brand new PS3 Slim just to play old hat games on it? And since there aren't any pirated games, it means people will have to buy them. Still, it's only a matter of time till someone starts producing pirate PS3 games.

I am surprised that Sony did not make the PS3 backwards compatible – I certainly think more people would buy one if it was. It is after all a waste of money to buy the SAME game just for the new console. I will stick with my PSP for now
