Ok, the title is just a play on a very popular term. But really, I am the latest Pinoy Scandal Fan. But unlike other prurient folks, the scandal I’m referring to is that awesome Japanese All-girl band that plays kickass music. And mind you, these girls are still in high school but the way they make their rock star moves you’d think they’ve been at it forever. True they’ve been playing for 3 years now, at least that’s what I’ve read, but still they’re displaying maturity that’s far beyond their age.

The only problem is that aside from arigato and baka, my knowledge of the japanese language really sucks. But whatever, music is supposed to be universal and thus transcends language barriers.

I’m not gonna linger too much on the band as I believe their music and their attitude speaks volumes already. What I will do however is leave you guys with a few scandal videos taken from youtube and hope that you’re seeing the things that I’m seeing and I’m not talking about their legs.

Here are the latest scandal videos from youtube.com:

Last Christmas, as a gift to myself, I decided to buy an HP Mini 110. As I sink deeper into blogging I felt that I needed something ultra-portable to carry everywhere. Though my old and trusty Mac still works perfectly, I find that it’s a tad heavy compared to the usual netbook flooding the market today.

I did a little research on what would be the best netbook to buy, but in the end I decided to go for the HP Mini because of one distinguishing factor, the keyboard. If you take a look at the Mini you will notice that its keyboard is similar to that of a full-sized laptop. This is very important for me because I need to come up with a lot of articles week after week after week. And although the other netbooks boast of better features, I just really need something that has decent enough speed and RAM plus the standard 1.66Gb of processing speed. How much do you really need for word processing and facebook anyway?

The HP Mini was gorgeous when I first beheld it! I couldn’t wait for the lady to hand me the netbook so I can already connect it to SM Megamall’s wifi. Alas when you’re buying things in credit, you can’t really expect things to be superfast. Anyway, when I finally got my netbook, I was really hungry and wanted to go home.

After a quick bite, I tried out my apartment’s wifi connection on my new Mini. It worked perfectly! I can even work from downstairs where my living room is! I slept that night with a silly smile on my face. The following day however, the HP wouldn’t boot up. The freaking system has crashed! A required DLL library cannot be found it says.

Unfortunately for me, I was on my way to my province when it happened so I couldn’t bring it back to Sillicon Valley to be fixed.

Fast forward 10 days after when I got back from the holidays, I was asking Sillicon Valley’s security guard who I should approach regarding repairs of a defective unit. The guard pointed me to compuserve, which was across Sillicon Valley. I pleaded my case before the all-powerful technicians of this warranty service shop but all I got was “Sir, that’s a software problem so that’s not covered by the warranty.”

After explaining that I only used it for a day, they finally said that they will reinstall the software and will only charge me for the labor cost. I asked how much, they said P1250. WTF!? That much to install a frigging software? I get a defective software bundled with the HP Mini, and when the software conks out after a day, I get charged an additional P1250. Wow, that’s quite a cutthroat deal.

I almost shouted at the technician when I told him to pack everything and give me my notebook. There was no way in hell that I’m gonna pay that much to have my software re-installed? CompuServe? Seriously? Almost any moron including this one can install a windows OS blindfolded these days and youre charging me that much? Talk about highway robbery if ever there was one.

I huffed and puffed towards Sillicon Valley and asked to talk to their manager. Fortunately I saw the technician who prepped my HP Mini and immediately told her what happened. She also mentioned software is not covered by the warranty but she said the amount they’re asking is too much. I think she saw how vexed I was because she called another technician and asked him to take a look at my notebook and try to do a recovery.

After a long while, it looked like my hard disk needs reformatting because they couldn’t fix it anymore. I told the guy not to worry about, I’ll just buy an external DVD player and I’ll just take it from there.

And that’s the story behind the resurrection of the HP Mini. For sure we didn’t start in the best of terms but I kinda feel that we’re gonna be very good friends. As for that blasted CompuServe office, man those guys are pirates. I still can’t get over the fact that they would charge me that much for such an easy job. Oh well, good luck with that.

No, I am not on a blogging hiatus. I doubt if I will ever be on one. Though I haven’t been blogging on my two major sites lately, the thing is, the internet is such a vast space that if ever I’m not very visible here, for sure I am doing something wicked somewhere else.

Ok, I’m not really doing something nefarious this time but I am very much glued to the internet every day, working on another stand-alone yet on a subdomain blog. It’s been such a fan thing to do that my vaunted Alexa Rank in my major blogs have suffered. But I guess that’s alright considering that my new sub-domain blog has just been going up and up.

I’m talking about my very own blog about facebook cheats. Yep I’ve joined the bandwagon and you know what, there’s still a lot more seats in there! My facebook centered blog can be read at http://facebookcheats.thirdworldgeek.com. I just seriously started adding a lot of articles around the third week of December and the results have been really good. I’m up to an average pageviews of around 1200/day with unique daily visitors averaging around 400 in the last couple of days and still going up. I told you it’s so much fun!

This facebook blog is currently focusing on Ninja Warz Tips, Tricks, and the occasional cheat. So if you’re playing Ninja Warz this is a good resource for you to visit. If you’re not, THEN WHY THE HELL NOT? Where else can you play a game where you meet lots of people and you get to kill all of them? loll.

Anyway the site’s traffic is sourced mainly from search engine visitors. I’m just starting to realize the power of the Thesis Theme when it comes to SEO. Only a couple of minutes after publishing an article and it’s already indexed by Google. Freaking awesome! The blog is also featured heavily on Mahalo and some of those aggregator sites like zappafly and others.

Subscription to the site is increasing by the day as well, as of last check, my email subscribers have reached 171. Not a really big number in any case but still, with not much marketing, just pure unadulterated content writing, I’m very satisfied with it.

I’ll probably go back to posting the usual stuff when everything’s not so crazy anymore in the office but right now, this baby here is hogging all my time.

Hey visit the blog some time. Cheers!

The quote below had smoke coming out of my ears, despite the iced latte:

MyBlogLog was a wildly innovative service that grew fast after launching and was acquired in January 2007 by Yahoo! for $10 million. It made a deal with users: Give us your personal information and we’ll show you the faces of people who read your blog. That was a compelling offer and the resulting data amassed could have proven invaluable, had Yahoo! chosen to cultivate it and a developer ecosystem around it. That potential was so great, in fact, that sunset for MyBlogLog is downright tragic. It’s also likely to anger bloggers all around the web.readwriteweb.com, ReadWriteWeb, Dec 2009

Yep, MyBlogLog is about to go belly-up. MyBlogLog was the networking site I ran to when Blogcatalog slammed the door in my face forever. I like the community I have there and although it did have a few things that I would have wanted them to have they were still better than the other blog networking sites. And now they’re closing. Oh man, Yahoo! is really going to the dogs.

Actually this is not a novel idea, my friend over at ceblogger.com turned a new leaf this year with that in mind as well and he seemed to really enjoy it. I’m taking a leaf out of his strategy notebook and completely turn this blog on its head.

Just the thought of writing other sports stories makes me really excited.

Can I just say that the internet is awesome? Ok, I am gonna sound like a broken record here but really, the Internet is awesome! I’m sure you’ve had your share of stories about sites that are blocked in your place of work.

Yahoo! Messenger is a common fixture in most corporate IT banned applications. Even when Yahoo! Came up with a Messenger version that does it’s own tunneling, rendering admin privileges useless, Messenger was still successfully suppressed with memos of IT audits and disciplinary action once Messenger is found to be installed in your PC.

Then came Meebo and e-Buddy and all those hosts of browser based messaging systems that literally mocked all IT measures to keep third party messaging systems out of every company. The Internet cannot be denied.

I got to relive those moments just recently with Twitter. With the advent of social media, again the IT hounds are tasked with making sure that all social media related sites are kept out of the corporation’s system. Everything that sounded like a social media site was banned. And because installing something on my corporate PC would require admin rights, it looked like Twitter would forever be limited to my phone and my home computer.

I was almost resigned to just twittering at home, until I decided to scour the internet for some Meebo like site where I can Twit to my heart’s content. Fortunately for me, I found TwitKu. You only have to go to TwitKu.com put in your twitter username/password, and off you go to the twitterverse.

The Internet, I have to say again, is AWESOME!
I got kicked out of the office today. At least for two and a half hours. IT guys were all over my computer as they try to upgrade me to a newer box. It’s not too bad. I get to have a couple of hours to myself without getting too guilty about it. The only thing is that without a computer, my options were limited so I had to walk all the way to Makati Ave just to get my internet fix.

I managed to find a cafe that advertises itself as having the fastest internet connection in the country. All I can say is, TALK IS CHEAP. While their internet connection is indeed faster than average to say that it is the fastest is, well, I must be the queen of England.

Not sure who they’re fooling but I do know that their target market, the Koreans wouldn’t be too impressed I’m sure, what with the ridiculously high internet speeds they have in their country. I figured that they are targeting Koreans because well, the keyboard has all those Korean alphabets in it and the web browser is in Korean as well, which makes for one shitty browsing experience. And at P60/hour? Argh, I can feel my arm getting ripped off already.

But it’s alright,t I guess. they have 29″ flat screen Samsung monitors and really comfy chairs that allow you to lean back while you type. The airconditioning system sucks though and with all the computers here, things are getting hot!

I wonder if the owners have already recovered their investment in this place. As for me, I’m still dreaming of having one of my own internet cafe again.
This podcast is presented by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. CDC – safer, healthier people.

Welcome to this CDC podcast on how to prevent getting and spreading novel H1N1 flu. Hello. I’m Dr. Joe Bresee with CDC’s Influenza Division.

At this time, an outbreak of novel H1N1 flu is occurring in the United States and internationally. While CDC is taking action to control the outbreak, communities, businesses, places of worship, schools, and individuals can also take steps to slow the spread.

Novel H1N1 flu spreads when sick people cough or sneeze flu germs onto others or onto surfaces that someone else may touch. Whether you’re at home, work, school, or running daily errands, you can help prevent the flu by washing your hands often with soap and water and avoiding contact with sick people.

Sometimes you won’t have access to running water, so you might want to carry hand sanitizer that contains at least 60 percent alcohol. If you can, it’s best to use soap and water because hand sanitizer doesn’t remove soil and other material that might be on your hands.

If you’re diagnosed with novel H1N1 flu, it’s important to stay away from others. Stay home from work or school to keep from spreading the virus. Remember, you may be able to infect others beginning one day before symptoms develop and up to seven or more days after becoming sick. That means you may be able to pass on the flu to someone else before you know you’re sick and while you’re sick.

CDC also recommends that you cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Put your used tissue in the trash immediately.

He does have a sociology degree from UCLA though and he actively campaigned for Obama in the last elections so it’s not like the appointment came out of the blue. Oh well, good luck to you Kumar![ad#ps300]

It’s finally on paper. Everyone knows that sooner or later, doing work on odd hours can take a toll on your body. But this knowledge has always been conjecture.
It’s finally on paper. Everyone knows that sooner or later, doing work on odd hours can take a toll on your body. But this knowledge has always been conjecture. Just something that when you’re asked to explain you’re asked to explain you just say because– and nothing else.

In my previous work, management was very quick to point out that there isn’t really a correlation between working in the nightshift and sickness. They said that there’s never been a study, a documented one at that, that expressly links the two. Not that a lot of kids there care. The night premium was enough to silence everyone.

But now there’s this article in Wired that somehow, though not very definitive, is claiming that there may be a link to certain illnesses and working those irregular hours after all.

I think us nightshift folks should take heed of this article.

But you know what would be better? It would be great if we can send this article out to our nightshift friends just so they know what they’ve gotten themselves into. As for me, highlighting this article here is my way of spreading the bad news of the graveyard shift.

Here it is:

NIGHT SHIFT MAKES METABOLISM GO HAYWIRE

Note: If you’d like to closely monitor your sleeping pattern you could try yawn log.
