Kizuna Satellite Internet Testing

Posted on 11 November 2009

Finally, Kizuna Satellite will be tested for home use on between November 15 and 24. This is what the JAXA website says. The lucky village is Ogasawara in Japan. That village will get to test the claimed 155Mbps upload/download time of the Kizuna Satellite.

Man that’s fast!

I was actually hoping for the Kizuna Satellite Internet to become commercial for the Southeast Asian Region middle of last year, but until now, it still isn’t happening. Hopefully this test will be a step closer to getting it up to speed. Although I must say that I’m no longer as excited as before. Thank SkyBroadband for that. I’m already getting 6-8Mbps of broadband speed so I’m good.

Still nothing like a really good competitor to shake the lousy internet broadband service provided by the big three in domestic internet services. Globe, Smart, and Sun (I guess they’re becoming a player) have really poor internet services. I can’t really talk about Sun because I haven’t tried their internet service. But Globe and Smart? Ugh. It’s like pulling teeth.

Really boys and girls, if you want less headache, go over to Skybroadband. I’m sure they will have their own headaches as well, but compared to the pain that Globe and Smart causes, it’s like being spanked by Maria Ozawa. Hmmm…

Anyway, here’s the full post from www.jaxa.jp;

Demonstration for the first practical use of broadband Internet via KIZUNA in Ogasawara

Between Nov. 15 and 24, a broadband Internet communication test using the Wideband InterNetworking engineering test and Demonstration Satellite “KIZUNA” will be held for residents in Ogasawara village, a digitally divided area.

Currently telephone and Internet communication between Ogasawara village and the main land rely on a commercial satellite, and their transmission speed is about 2 Mbps for upstream and about 10 Mbps for downstream. Using the KIZUNA, the speed will be increased to 155 Mbps for both ways. JAXA would like to verify the operability of the KIZUNA experiment system by providing the KIZUNA broadband Internet environment to Ogasawara villagers and asking them to evaluate its convenience.
