Today, after 2 lattes and a shot of espresso, I have decided to share with you guys one of the shortcuts to Alexa Page Ranking success. No, I’m not gonna sell you anything. I’m sharing this because, well, let’s just say I’m feeling pretty buzzed right now. I’m sure a lot of those who will chance upon this entry are starting to roll their eyes and say, ‘Yeah, yeah. He’s just gonna tell me that I need lots of traffic to up my Alexa ranking.” And you know what you eye-rollers are absolutely correct. However there’s some twist here and I’m sure you’re gonna come out the wiser for being a little more patient. I’m going to share you a secret aren’t I, so I’m a bit entitled to some little drama.
Ok, lest some of you roll your eyes, again, and think that I’m just spewing hot air in here, again, I’m just gonna cut to the chase and dive in.
As you have correctly surmised, to go anywhere near a respectable Alexa Page Rank, you need traffic. There’s no way around that. However, we’re not talking about your regular traffic here. There are some folks who have tons of traffic but are still showing dismal Alexa Page Ranks. There are blogs however who only show very little to moderate traffic but are showing really good Alexa Rankings.
Case in point is my little travel blog, Philippines Travel Blog. This blog I created sometime in December last year, which makes it around 8 months old. If you would look at its Alexa Ranking, it’s now hovering around 170K. A couple of weeks ago it was around 140K but that’s for another story. I believe I mentioned before in one of my Alexa Page Rank updates that I couldn’t understand why its Alexa Rank is so high when it’s only getting around 200 visits a day. Actually I had my suspicions but I didn’t want to jump to conclusions then. I have confirmed it now and thus this post.
Alright back to traffic. For your Alexa Page Rank to really get going you need to have a special kind of traffic. What I mean by this is that the traffic that’s coming to your site should be 1> varied, and 2> have the Alexa Toolbar installed. Varied traffic means that your traffic has to come from different geographic locations, not just from your area or country. I think Maki of Doshdosh.com mentioned #2 in his article, 20 Ways To Increase Your Alexa Page Rank, this is a very good read, though a bit outdated.
Ok, you’re probably thinking that all this is fine but how do we get varied traffic and visitors who have the Alexa Toolbar installed? Now this is the big secret. Actually it’s no big secret, I bet that some of you guys are already using it, but for a totally different purpose. I’m talking about Entrecard. If you already have Entrecard installed, good for you, if not, and you want to see some bump in your Alexa Rankings, this is a very good tool that you really should try out.
With Entrecard, you get to receive traffic from all sources (varied traffic), and I get the feeling that most of those who use this tool have the Alexa Rank Toolbar installed as well. Now this is no mere speculation. As I said earlier regarding my Travel Blog, it was hovering around 140K but the moment I stopped using Entrecard, Alexa Rankings started falling. I wonder why.
In closing, while Entrecard will certainly take you a couple of rankings higher in terms of Alexa Rankings, do not view it as a permanent tool. Sooner or later you need to get varied traffic independent of the Entrecard widget. Get those keywords working and optimize. Entrecard is good as a traffic startup tool but it is time consuming. There will come a time when you’ll grow tired of dropping them Entrecards, so be sure that you have the SEO basics covered.
I hope that this little post has been a little help in boosting your Alexa Page Rank.

and this post deserves to be featured in the entrecard blog.
Yep.. I agree too
After I joined Entrecard, my Alexa rank has increased drastically as well
I don't how exactly the Enter Card Widgets works but let me check it. It's a new idea and worth a try.
Ah.. make sense because after I joined Entrecard long ago, my Alexa Rank improved significantly
just in time bro… i just migrated my blog from blogspot and obviously with the new selfhosted blog and domain its, alexa ranking shoot up to the heavens. I guess I indeed need to maximize the use of Entrecard on this one.
I have been using entrecard since I started blogging this February. And in the first 2 months where I don't have enough traffic yet from the search engines, it's visitors coming from entrecard that kept my site alive.
And yes, it really helps in boosting your alexa rank.
This is really useful info, thanks. Going to check it out now.
I really like to join entrecard in fact I start dropping last year it really useful. But sad to say my account was suddenly rejected for some reason. I try to sign up again, yes I was accepted but the problem is… when somebody drop my entrecard it say… NO SUCH USER, Oh my. Please advice. Thanks, have a nice day…GOD BLESS YOU AND YOUR FAMILY!
Other than increasing Alexa rank does EC do anything for your blog? Do all those people returning your drop doing anything but load the page, drop, and off they go? Is this really building you value long term?
I dint yet join in entry cart. If it is really valuable in increasing ranking, then i will surely join in it. Thanks.
Useful advice. I have experienced the exact things you have mentioned here after I used Entrecard. But yes I have been very disappointed that the entrecard community has been the drop and scoot one.
BLASPHEMY! Hahaha. Just kidding. Good read and cool tips. But question about Alexa, do they conflict with google analytics?
Hi!
I don’t think alexa ranking and entrecard dropping is related in any way. You can get easy traffic with entrecard but EC traffic come with a high bounce rate. High bounce rate mean people come and run away in a split seconds. It is not good to any webmaster. Do you know one group of blogger (today.com) run away from entrecard becausse of the high bounce rate?
I am inclined to reply to some comments here because of the question of Entrecard's value. It is very true that most entrecard droppers are of the 'drop and scoot' variety as Ivs pointed out. Michael Cruse also laid the same question. Entrecard for me is a tool for something else.
There may be some folks who would be awed by your content if they stay long enough to read, but unfortunately that isn't the case. Even my own motives for endorsing Entrecard lie somewhere else. Like I said, this is all about Alexa page rank. Now some folks would frown at that (they're not really tickled pink with Alexa), well I say to those guys you can frown all you want, but if you're looking for direct advertisers, guess what's one of the factors for consideration? Yep, Alexa. Even if you got a good site, good content but with a shitty alexa rating ad folks are gonna move on.
And yes, I have been approached by direct advertisers myself (even accepted a few) and I'd like to think my soaring alexa rating has a lot to do with it. And no, it's not this blog.
So where's the value of using Entrecard? You tell me. Unless you're into blogging for 'artistic' purposes.
You will have better Alexa ranking if your traffic is increasing and to get traffic one have to spend effort to promote one blog. That is all to it.

The problem is, Entrecard accepts ONLY Blogs written in English, and my Blog is written in Greek. I don't understand why they choose only English spoken blogs and reject all others. Nobody told them about Google translation today?
