Me Linky Love You Long Time

Tags: , , , , , , , , ,

I have followed my own advice. This blog is now DoFollow, which means as a reward for your untiring commenting you’ll feel the love of a Dofollow link. But not so fast, the link love plugin I’ve installed here is not your run of the mill plugin; this is Lucia’s Link Love plugin which means I can specify the number of comments you have to make first before your links becomes DoFollow. I won’t say the exact number but it’s greater than one and less than 5. Fair enough, yeah?

But again, according to my own advice, I have enabled comment moderation so that I will still have a say on whether you’re a spammer, or a hammer. Bad rhyme.

So comment away folks take advantage of the linky goodness of this dofollow blog’s juices. Don’t worry if you leave stupid comments. I’ll be the judge of that. I’m pretty tolerant though but those really obnoxious remarks will not see the light of day.

Cheers!

Page Rank Leakage

One interesting thing related to links is the idea of a PR leakage. The PR theory is that a single link to another site counts as one editorial vote. Editorial votes are the building blocks of Page Rank. Accordingly, the higher the PR of the site doing the voting the bigger will be the impact come PR upgrade time. This also has a bearing on a particular site’s SERP standing.

Supposedly, PR leakage occurs when a certain blog has way too many outgoing links. When this happens that site’s voting power becomes less potent compared with others of the same PR but with way lesser outgoing links. That’s the general idea behind this concept.

Now whether you believe this concept is entirely up to you. I have read about this in several authoritative blogs but I have yet to read about a concrete example of this. Although this makes a lot of sense to me, I still wonder how this actually pans out. Will a blog with too many outgoing links be downgraded in the subsequent PR upgrade?

It seems improbable however that a blog, not a directory, would have that many outgoing links, unless you participate in one of those viral blog link thing, or you’re engaged in excessive reciprocal link exchanges. Now that’s something that you don’t want to be caught red handed now that you know better.

Bad, Bad Backlinks Checker

One of the things that can get you penalized by the almighty Google is when you link to some sites that are totally not related to you. I’m not sure if it’s possible for one to unknowingly link to a gambling or a pornography site without the blogger’s knowledge. But let’s just say for argument’s sake that the blogger really did not know that his site is linking to a bad site?

As a segue, the thing to fear are outward links as these are the links that the blogger/site owner can control. Incoming links are not a cause for worry as it usually is beyond the blogger’s control unless the blogger himself owns the other blog.

But what if, really, the owner of a blog is toally clueless that he’s been linking to a bad site? What does he do now, examine each link in his blog? That could take forever. But not to worry, I found this little link that allows the blogger to automatically check on all the outgoing links in his blog and check if some of those links are bad. It’s a nifty little thing that really got me impressed and excited that I couldn’t wait to share it with you.

This is the link going to that checker. You might want to try it out.
