The Case For Apple’s iPad

First of all, let me say flat-out, the name of Appleís tablet sucks. Itís completely uninspired and only creates auditory confusion as to whether you are referring to the iPod or THE iPad. See what I mean?

Ok, apart from that I think the iPad is a thing of beauty. I can already see myself going to meetings and taking down notes with it. Teehehe. Not that it would happen soon as I’m about to be leaving the rat race once again. Sad but true.

But aesthetics aside, what’s really the compelling argument for wanting to have an iPad? It doesn’t multitask, doesn’t support flash, and it doesn’t have any camera for videos. Based on those alone, a lot of folks are already shouting bloody murder and proclaiming to everyone who will listen that they’re not touching the device with a 10 foot pole. Hmmm.. I think those guys were just caught in the moment. I believe it’s too early to say that.

For bookworms, this device makes Amazon’s Kindle like something from the stone age. The flipping pages, the ease of download, the bookshelf? Gad, how can one resist? There’s also the photos feature. The blazing speed with which photos are shown is awesome, plus the slideshow, and the 1024×768 resolution. Man, I could already see the iPad docked on my office table showing pictures of my hot girlfriend in a slideshow while I work.

For me, no matter how Apple hypes all the other features and functionalities of the iPad, I do think its multimedia functionality is reason enough to buy. The rest are just gravy. Well that’s speaking as a third world geek where the availability of free wifi hotspots for internet browsing and email is scarcer than a taxi in Makati on a Friday afternoon.

Of course we can also talk about pogi-points but that’s beside the point.

eBook reader, photo frame, movies. Those are enough for me, really. Now if I can just get my hands on $500 bucks, everything would be perfect.

Expectations were very high on this latest hype although I heard a lot of not so great feedback about it. I still want to have this too though, I am such an avid apple fan but I might just wait for the "improved" version.

Apple is such a great brand. I cannot believe they are holding such great new product back for so long. When will this be out in the UK? Any1 has some more infos?

Lots of of bloggers not very pleased with the new iPad.There was just 2 much hoopla over it and lots of blogers got turned off.Quite frankly, I actually see some of the cool potential uses of this gizmo. Third-party soft for making tunes, games, papers and magazines and books, all kinds of neat stuff, but they failed to sell it right (excluding the books). It feels kinda incomplete

I am absolutely looking to watch for the Apple iPad, and I am amazed to see what kinds of games and apps will be created for it. I just don’t understand some of the nitpicky criticisms in this website. Size of the bezel?? Puh-leeze!

Apple’s a company I’ve enjoyed for some time, they produce technology that is visually gorgeous while working like a champ. Alot of companies aren’t like that, it’s typically one or the other. Tech companies don’t usually take aesthetics seriously like Apple. With that said I’ve got to say that I’m very excited about the new Tablet. One thing I question though, is it too soon? I’m afraid that this may be ahead of our time. What do you think?

I wrote a post on the same subject, i.e. why I as a developer would want an iPad. I think outside of showing it off to clients… don't know how productive I could be with it! http://www.bushmackel.com/2010/02/02/ipad-only-ap...

I believe it is a good reminder overall, given the tremendous over-hype that surrounded the iPad launch. Lots of the tech press had worked themselves in to a hysteria and had resolved it was going to be the biggest thing ever, without knowing anything about it.

I have to agree with you, it's not particularly what it does, it's what you can see yourself DOING with it. It's so pretty and as a reader (which might I point out to all those who say the iPad doesn't do enough – a reader to wipe out the Kindle is what it was designed as) it is brilliant, and this is the only thing it needs to be good at the be sucessful.

I find that the iPad is the best computer in my household and office menagerie. It's not a replacement for my notebook, mind you. It feels more as if the iPad is filling a gap that's existed for quite some time
