If internet whispers are to be believed, looks like the much awaited Palm Pre will be released by the end of April 2009. Sounds like a preemptive strike to me.
After the iPhone 3.0 software was unveiled earlier this month, and some features to that release were conspicuously missing, everyone had a solid hunch that a new iPhone hardware is coming around June/July. The Palm Pre has been announced way before that, and it was sort of touted to be an iPhone killer (another one?). And looks like the days of waiting for this gadget is about to be here.
I just hope this gadget doesn’t turn out to be a dud. Instead of discussing all the features that this awesome smartphone offers, I’ll let this youtube video speak for the Palm Pre. Enjoy!

Ah. Sigh. Palm have disappointed many of us dedicated Palm followers who fell in love with them during the days of the Palm V, Visor and so on. I bought a Visor about 10 years ago and still find it the most useful and enjoyable gadget I ever bought. I still use Palm Desktop for my contacts believe it or not!
But the problem is that this company has fallen very far behind with their releases and when they have released stuff it has been sub standard. Anyway you probably know all this..
Before seeing this post I was thinking of getting a Nokia Smartphone. Now I might wait. Looks like there's a hidden Qwerty keyword inside the phone, from looking at the video. Quite nice.
Sadly, I think this phone probably will be a dud. It's only getting a lot of hype because it's basically Palm's last shot, and their first venture into a modern device. I have seen nothing that really makes it stand out against the likes of Android or iPhone.
As an old-time Palm fan I did have high hopes for the Pre, but I fear this is a case of 'too little too late', and the well-timed release of the iPhone 3G S is not going to help!
